Novice boat builders often look at the confusing array of different designs offered by boat designers and are perplexed at what style of boat is right for their needs and intended use. All too often an inappropriate boat design is selected because of looks, or other non-functional consideration when the builder would be far happier building a boat whose performance and intended usage more closely fits intended application. This article will attempt to address the more common boat designs and arm the new builder with the information he needs to make the best choice in a small boat design. One of the most popular boat designs being built these days is small boat design, or sometimes called McKenzie River Drift Boat. While these boats have their place, more often than not, this design is selected for its looks, or because they’re popular with a certain group (usually the fly fishing devotees.) Drift boats are an excellent choice when used as they are intended - drifting down-river, but are highly unsatisfactory for much else. If you wish to travel back up-river or wish to use the boat on a calm lake, the difficulty powering such a boat by rowing becomes apparent. They’re designed such that the operator can keep them pointing down-river, but are very difficult to row in a straight line and have very little glide as compared to other types of row boats. Some designers have separated the standard McKenzie river drift boat into two distinct styles: the Western type drift boat, intended for fast moving narrower rivers, and the Midwestern type drift boat, more suited to wider and deeper rivers and lakes. The Western style has severe rocker and high sides to handle wild whitewater, while the Midwestern style has less rocker and lower sides to facilitate both rapids and calmer water where the user can more easily power the boat by rowing. For the person who doesn’t intend to use the boat in white water rapids, a while host of other small boat designs make for more sense. The Grand Banks Dory is one such design. These are simple to build, incredibly seaworthy, and a joy to row or sail. In 1876, an 18-foot Grand Banks style dory (named “Centennial” after the 100-year anniversary for the Declaration of Independence) made a single-handed crossing of the North Atlantic from New York to England. Grand Banks dories are easy to build, and ideal for most lake, river, and ocean use. Their only downside is that they don’t power very well, and only slower speeds are possible. For a small boat that can both row well and power well, the Carolina Dory is a wise choice. These were developed after the advent of power when it was discovered that the Grand Banks types were too narrow in the stern to power well. A Carolina dory moves along quite well on modest power and yet still is easily rowed (an important consideration in the early days when gas engines weren’t very reliable.) For an all-round stable family boat, these are a very wise choice. With moderate power they’ll plane to cross long stretches of water rapidly, but retain their very seaworthy dory heritage. They’re also one of the easiest boats to build. For an easy-to-build boat that is to be powered only, one of the best choices is the Pacific Power dory design. These very seaworthy boats were developed in the Pacific Northwest to power through rough water and remain stable and safe. These boats have a heritage of being launched through the surf and are sturdy enough to be used as commercial fishing boats. They’re also very easy to build for the first time boat builder. There are hundreds of different boat designs available to the amateur boat builder that offer all sorts of different capabilities and require a wide variety of skill levels. Some require careful fitting of parts and learning specialized skills used by the shipwrights of the past, while others require only basic carpentry skills. Drift boats and dories, though remain the easiest of all to build and offer the novice a great first boat building project. Selecting the proper type for the individual’s need, though, is important to make sure the first project experience is a positive one.

I have been playing golf as a Professional for over 30 years and have used a lot of different companies during this time when choosing the right golf bag, glove, clubs, shoes etc etc. for my game.I am not one of the tour pros who get paid vast amounts to endorse their products; I have to pay for mine, albeit at a discount on the trade price. So this is not an advertisement for the company, it is my honest opinion as a Golf Professional on the quality of the gear I use.The Titleist PROV-1 is without doubt the best golf ball I have ever used and has been in my bag for many years; in fact I think I have used a Titleist ball for the past 20 years. When I first started playing it was a Dunlop 65 fresh out of the wrapper, for those of you too young to remember, golf balls used to be packaged in a wrapper back in the 1970’s and before. My oh my doesn’t time fly by. Anyway where was I? Oh yeah, why the PROV-1? - Simple really, it goes a long way, flies high, stops on a sixpence and has a lovely soft feel for those shots around the green. Enough said.I use a Titleist Players glove or a Footjoy Sta-Sof glove, both are best golf training quality cabretta leather giving you a superb feel and they are very comfortable to wear. A lot of amateur golfers use the All-Weather glove or synthetic versions, but I have never liked the feel of them and although the leather glove costs a little bit more they are worth it. I know a few of you guy’s use the all-weather glove because it has an extra pad on the heel of the palm to help with wear and tear. Nearly every glove wears out there first, some quicker than others. But that is a fault of either your hold on the club, usually gripping the golf club too tightly at address and loosening your grip at impact, causing excessive wear and tear on your glove. But that’s another story, see your local pro and he will help with this.My Irons of choice are the Titleist Z-Blend Forged with a dynamic gold S shaft and tour velvet grip. They are a blended cavity to muscle back forged iron, which means that the long irons are cavity backed, the mid irons are a partial cavity and the short irons muscle back blade. This is a great idea and has been around for a few years now, help where needed in the longer irons gradually blending to a blade type short iron for that classic look and playability. I love these Irons, they are great to look at and have a lovely feel off the club head. In my humble opinion you cannot beat a forged club head for exceptional feel and playability. So there you have it, just a few of the things you will find in my golf bag. The best ball, the best glove, the best irons and the best golfer of all time using them. OK scrap that last comment, we can all dream.Enjoy your round, look after your golf equipment and if you are struggling with your game find a golf pro you like and respect and seek out some Lessons from him. If you work at any changes in your game then you will benefit from them in the long run, if you don’t, then it will be just like all the other tips you have discarded as being useless.

The 1927 season was spectacular for the New York Yankees. Their record that year was 110-44 and took the series against the Pittsburg Pirates. This is in stark contrast to the previous year with the Yaniees losing to the Saint Louis Cardinals. The term murderer’s row was coined due to the batting lineup of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. But the term was originally given to the pre Ruth and Gehrig era and specifically to the 1918 lineup of six strong batters.
The Yankees are still a remarkable team. To get New York Baseball Tix and see the current great players, use the link provided.
My husband’s birthday is coming up soon. I have been trying to find him the perfect gift. The man is not the easiest guy to buy for. Most of the things that he wants he just goes out and buys it. I know that he has been looking at some Electric Trolling Motors at the local boating store that we have here in town. I have thought about going down there and buying him a gift certificate. Then he could buy the exact one that he wants. I am sure that I would not be able to pick out the one he wants.
I have an eight year old son that wanted to go fishing flamingo florida with me and the charter I had planned to go out on last week. At first I did not know if my son would be able to come along, but I learned that children were free on any charter with Captain Brian. My son was very excited when he found out he was going on his first fishing adventure. We were fishing for tarpon, but when I had a smaller fish on the line, I handed the pole to my son. His first fish was a seven pound snook. Overall it was a great time fishing flamingo florida with my son and Captain Brian.
It’s really not advisable to change suppliers from time to time especially when your customers have already become used to the usual products that you sell to them on a regular basis. This is the lesson that I have learned out of selling pellet bb guns. I keep on searching for the cheapest pellet bb guns in the market and I end up changing suppliers on a quarterly basis because of it. The consequence is that the quality I get out of the cheaper pellet bb guns is also noticeable in a lot of ways. Even my friends tell me how different the cheaper pellet bb guns look like as compared to the ones that I started out with.
